Accessories- Beanies

One of my favorite cold weather accessories has got to be the beanie! I think it looks great on both men and women and it's an easy way to look cool, without having to do your hair! Gotta love that!

I just bought this beanie in coral but also want a neon pink beanie sort of like this!

The good news is that there are a ton of beanies out there! If you need some help, here are some good places to look: HERE, HERE (15% off too) or HERE!

All of those places also offer Men's beanies so guys what are you waiting for, go get yourself a beanie!

Glasses- Warby Parker

Many months ago I was checking out at Trader Joe's (my favorite grocery store) when I noticed the guy who was checking me out. He had the coolest pair of glasses on so I had to ask where he got them. It was he who first told me about Warby Parker.

Since then, it's one of the things I love to share the most. The business model is genius and I only wish I had thought of it myself. Essentially it works like this:

1. Go online to www.warbyparker.com.
2. Pick out 5 of the pairs you love most.
3. Warby Parker sends you the 5 samples of the pairs you picked out and you get to try them on at home.
4. You decide which style looks good on you, pick out your favorite pair or two and send back all the samples with the free shipping label that is included.
5. Go online and order the pair you chose and fill out the prescription information.
6. It is easy and the best part is that you can get an awesome pair of glasses for only $95.

Oh and I almost forgot, they donate a pair of glasses to someone who needs it. It's a win/win situation.

They have prescription and sunnies for Men and Women. I just ordered a pair and can't wait to get them!

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

The holidays are a fun time to dress up and for the past few years an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party has always been one of the many themes. They seem to be more and more common each year,  but still a lot of fun. If you haven't been to one I suggest throwing one. It's the easiest party to get ready for and the fun lies in finding the most ridiculous sweater! I suggest first looking in your Mom, Grandma or Aunt's closet. If they don't have anything then check out the local thrift shop. If your local thrift shop is a no go (or if all the good holiday sweaters are gone) then check out the following retailers.
This sweater found HERE!

Oversized Clutch

Oversized clutches have been "in" for a while, but it wasn't until I saw the picture above that I really noticed how well it can pull an outfit together. An oversized clutch can seem almost frivolous, given the fact that it isn't quite big enough to hold everything. Yet, somehow it seems like the right size to hold necessary things, making it the perfect addition. Find the clutch above by clicking here!

Sneakers!

I love the recent trend of pairing sneakers with different everyday outfits. While my tendency is to lean towards a pair of heels I think I am going to try and emulate this cool laid back look.

This looks like an easy trend to pull off but there are so many different types of sneakers out there. From observation it looks like low profile sneakers work best with skirts and fun colors work well with jeans. It seems like any sneakers you choose should be safe unless they are actually made for working out in which case you could end up looking like you stepped out of an 80's aerobic class. Therefore invest in an everyday pair of sneakers to pair with skirts and jeans and keep your workout sneakers for times when you are actually being physically active and you should be good! I think I am going to try this look soon....wish me luck!

Puma, New Balance and Nike tend to have some really fun colored sneakers. I found these and these both in cool colors. There are lots of low profile sneakers out there that are cute but I tend to gravitate towards this classic pair. This fun blue pair is even on sale right now! Check it out!

Furry Coat

Winter has officially arrived and it is COLD outside! It's time to get snuggled up in something warm and what better way than a nice big furry coat!

Maybe it's the kid in me, but I just can't help but touch furry coats when I see them in stores. It just feels so nice! Being an animal lover though I don't think I can bring myself to own or justify having a real fur coat, but that is exactly why faux (the French word for fake) exists! It will keep you just as warm and feel fuzzy without harming any animals. The plus to faux is that it is also much more affordable. Regardless of what your preference, on this very cold day I hope you find yourself warm and cozy!

If you are interested in a faux furry coat I found this TopShop coat. It feels lovely and comes in multiple colors, including whiteyellow, blue, and of course black!

Print Dresses

Clothes are a necessity, but it's important to also have fun with it!
I saw the picture above and was immediately inspired to find some fun printed dresses!

Of course I gravitated towards this flamingo printed dress, but they didn't have my size so I immediately found this one, reminding me that sometimes you have to just go for it before its gone.

If flamingos aren't your thing, try looking through this site! They always seem to have a variety of fun printed dresses in all sizes!

Movie: Hunger Games- Catching Fire

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Over the holiday I went to go see the new Hunger Games movie, "Catching Fire". I was really excited to see it because of the costumes! I had been hearing great things and needless to say I wasn't disappointed.

My favorites were:

Effie's Butterfly Dress was amazing!
Interesting fact: It was an Alexander McQueen real archive that they were allowed to borrow.

Alexander McQueen runway shot.

Katniss' Wedding Dress was gorgeous and with help from CGI effects caught on fire to transform into something magical (I won't ruin it for those who haven't seen the movie).

In the movie, the Capital has an insatiable palette for food, drink and of course fashion! It's fun to imagine the crazy style that people in the capitol would wear. Trish Summerville, the costume director did an amazing job! In fact, I recently discovered that she created a small line of Hunger Games inspired apparel for Net-a-porter.com. If interested, you can find the collection by clicking here!

My favorite from the collection was this one!

You might just realize (as I did) that you need an update, especially with all the Holiday parties that are coming up!

Cozy Fun Outerwear

Some people love winter, but I have recently realized I am not really a fan of being cold, which is probably why I am drawn to jackets and coats. This winter I've been searching for something cozy but also fun.  I found the jacket below at Intermix and love the pattern and cut!

Check out my favorite part, the back by clicking HERE!

I also found this Mixed Yarn Cardigan and this Black and White Geo Print Cardigan that also look cozy!

Shopping- Ted Baker

A few weeks ago I was shopping at the Santa Monica Promenade with a friend when I came across the Ted Baker store.

I had been introduced to the brand months ago when I came upon a beautiful dress on a mannequin at Bloomingdales. The dress was so cool that I hunted down a sales associate to help me practically undress the poor mannequin to tell me what brand it was. That was how I first found out about the Ted Baker brand.

Upon further research I discovered that the brand was British and had a very girly appeal to it, something that I was instantly drawn to. The aesthetic is made up of classic cuts with trendy patterns making it stand out in a crowd. While I was in London this past summer I quickly popped into a Ted Baker store, but since I wanted almost everything I had to leave or else risk buying the entire store.

If you haven't heard of it I highly recommend you do so. If there isn't one near you and you aren't going to London anytime soon, check it out by clicking HERE or HERE!

Oh and not only is their Women's clothing and accessories amazing, but they also have a fabulous Men's section.

At the Santa Monica promenade I was helped by two lovely gentleman where I ended up buying a dress and jumpsuit, but I wanted so much more.

Below were some of my favs!

Butterfly Makeup Case that I would wear as a Clutch.

Details on this wallet (or purse as they would call it in England) is fun!

This Midi Dress means business!

Floral Heels right so very cool!

Fair Isle Sweater Dress

During my daily readings this morning I came across two interesting things; fair isle sweaters and sweater dresses. Both were said to be on trend and both caught my eye.

Therefore, later in the day when I ran into this dress I found it funny that it was the mixture of two things that had caught my attention earlier in the day. It got me thinking about how sometimes information seems to just come all at once. Best example would have to be when you are thinking about buying a car and you settle on a particular model. Isn't it interesting how all of a sudden you start to see that exact model everywhere? It's almost like destiny is putting them all in front of you, when in fact it could just be that you just started paying attention to it.

In today's world, it sometimes feels like we don't pay attention enough, but paying attention today resulted in finding this really cool fair isle sweater dress. Imagine what you could find if you just pay attention!

Bright

I've noticed that my Fall and Winter wardrobe can be drab. It's naturally full of lots of blacks, neutrals and gray but recently on a gloomy day I decided I wasn't going to give in to the grays and instead chose to wear a bright salmon skirt. Let me tell you it definitely made my day a little brighter. Not only did I feel happier, people seemed happier to see me. They have done studies and color can seriously affect mood which is why I challenge you...next time it is gloomy outside or maybe even if you're feeling gloomy on the inside to wear a bright color. It will transform your day!

As seen above it can be subtle.

If you are feeling it though I highly suggest the dress above! It can be found by clicking here!

Sale, Sale, Sale

Looking back at some of my favorite purchases, a lot of them were found and obtained at some sort of sale. Apart from saving money, sales can be exciting. Product is limited and so one must decide quickly once a good item is spotted.

Currently, Nordstrom is having their half yearly sale. Since Sales can be overwhelming I went ahead and put together an outfit made up of all items on sale.

THEORY SWEATER ; PAIGE JEANS ; SAM EDELMAN BOOTS

Because I seem to have a shoe problem I also found this nude pair (also in black) as well as these cool flats...yes I said flats! If nothing else, the sale is the best time to pick up some of these or these basic necessities.

Tights

Southern California is moderately temperate compared to lots of other places, but it does get cold. Therefore, I have found that the easiest way to transition some of your summer clothes into winter is simply to add tights.
They are they best way to keep your legs warm, either with one of your favorite summer dresses and a cardigan or better yet worn under shorts to complete an outfit. Believe it or not my favorite place to get inexpensive tights is HERE! Tights are the best way to turn a summer outfit into a winter one for less than a meal. Try it!

Isabel Marant for H&M

Isabel Marant designs great pieces. Her clothes are all simple with a little bit of edge. Therefore, when I found out she had collaborated with H&M I got pretty excited. Leaks of what the pieces would look like begin to appear a few months ago and one of my favs was the picture below.

The dress is simple, yet cool. Something that sounds easy, but is actually hard to pull off. The Isabel Marant collection debuts in 7 days and I am pretty excited! Hope it doesn't sell out before I get the chance to see it. Check out more of her designs for H&M by clicking HERE!

If you are unfamiliar with Isabel Marant's designs, then check out her Fall 2013 collection by clicking on this video. It is very cool!

Statement Necklaces

Photo: Jcrew

Halloween is over and that only means one thing....the holidays are coming! Holidays mean lots of parties, getting together with family and friends and gift giving. All of this fun is going to require some extra spending. Therefore, if you are wanting a quick and less expensive way to update your look to make it more stylish, then you should consider the "oh so popular" statement necklace. It will dress up your regular shirt or sweater and will add that extra pop of spectacular for the holiday season.

Here are some lovely options and not all are ridiculously expensive....

Trend- Metallic

Photo: WWD

Being attracted to shiny sparkly things is not something new. We all, at one point or another have been.
I for one love sparkly things and so I am not surprised of the fact that I am drawn to the metallic trend that seems to be very "in" right now. Good news is that it also looks like it will be continuing through Spring 2014.

I was instantly inspired by the photo above...isn't that an awesome skirt?

I think so which is why I found these Kate Spade heels, this Top Shop top in a fun color, this affordable clutch and this flirty skirt on sale!

Whichever you choose, make sure to pair it with something basic (like white or black) and to let the focus be the metallic piece!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Fashion people generally love to dress up for Halloween. After all it is the chance to dress like someone you're not, in fact it is expected. The more outrageous your costume is, usually the more reaction it generates from friends and loved ones. It is the one time of year in which you can be whomever you want.

Personally, I tend to usually procrastinate and become overwhelmed with the endless possibilities. Unless planned way in advance and I mean waaaay in advance....like middle of summer advance, I sadly scramble to put something together.

Funny enough I have never wanted to be someone scary. As a kid I tended to go for the basics like a witch or a ghost. Since college Halloween has always been the perfect excuse to dress slutty..there was the slutty cop, the belly dancer (pretty slutty), the Greek Goddess (sort of slutty) and the German Beer Girl (the sluttiest). Funny enough I don't recall ever feeling comfortable in these costumes, in fact I usually felt super uncomfortable in them, which is not exactly how you want to feel if you want to look sexy.

Therefore, although I am sure you already have your costume picked out this year my advice to you is that whatever costume you choose, whether it's scary or basic or funny or slutty, just make sure you rock it! Don't rock it enough to get by, convince people you are who you're dressed up as.

My best costume EVER (so far) was the time I dressed up as Trinity from the Matrix. I didn't exactly choose it, it just happened to be the last costume at the Halloween store that fit (no joke) and so I bought it and decided to make the best of it. I spray painted my light hair black, wore sunglasses all night (even inside) and funny enough (quite funny to me) introduced myself to EVERYONE as Trinity. I even made my friends call me Trinity that night. It worked! Everyone believed that I was Trinity and people LOVED it. Best reaction I have ever had to a costume and all because I felt comfortable and owned it.

Therefore, it doesn't matter if you dress slutty or even if you look exactly like who you are dressed up as. What is important is that you OWN IT! So get out there and don't be afraid to work it!
Happy Halloween!!!

Gladiator Heels

I saw these Gladiator Heels from Paris Fashion Week Photos and was instantly mesmerized. I love that they are inspired by a real historical shoe (the gladiators during Roman times) but have been updated and give off an edgy vibe. Of course, these are only for those who are willing to take a fashion risk, but wearing them will for sure turn heads!

I looked everywhere, but could only find these awesome Stuart Weitzman sandals which I would also love!

White Leather Jacket

I don't generally like to buy things way out of season, meaning I won't be inclined to buy new boots until it is cold enough to wear them. I usually also don't really buy a new swimsuit until the day before a pool party, but I will admit I did buy a leather jacket in the middle of July....

Here is why, last winter I wore my black leather jacket ALL the time. I love it, so much so that I would say it is a definite staple in my wardrobe. In fact I have already pulled it out and started to wear it on cold days. Therefore when I started to see Winter trends (last summer), I saw a lot of white and figured I would take a chance on the white leather jacket.

I wanted this one:

Iro Quilted Jacket found here

I got this one from Topshop but it is now sold out.

Similar one found here for only $20!!!
It is finally getting chilly and I can't wait to wear it out!

Ankle Boots

Cold weather officially means boot season! Even though it hasn't exactly been cold in Southern California lately, it will be soon. Ankle boots are therefore definitely on my Fall wishlist! Great thing is that you can wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, or skirts making them very versatile. If you can only buy one new shoe this season I would recommend the ankle boot!

There are many different types, but here are some of my favorites!

Rag and Bone

Chinese Laundry

For some reason I have been wanting grey boots and these Steve Madden boots are cool. If you are looking to vamp up your outfit there are these Jessica Simpson booties that also happen to be on sale!
If you are into an edgier look then I would suggest this Steve Madden style.

Pick the style that best suits you, luckily there are many choices! Which will you choose?

Gianvito Rossi Ankle Strap Sandal

White heels made a come back this summer. While perusing the Internet the other day I came across this pair by Gianvito Rossi and was instantly struck by the back part of the sandal. I love how it looks like a cape that I imagine fits perfectly around your ankle, providing not only extra support, but would make your ankle look AMAZING!

Socks for the Boys

I haven't really posted a lot on Men's style, but if there are any men reading this (or women looking for a fun gift for the men in their lives) socks are a great way to show some personality!

Inspired by the photo above, I went in search of fun socks and found all sorts of cool things.

For the man who is still a child at heart and maybe a little silly there are Dinosaur socks which are awesome as well as Shark socks. I mean who doesn't love sharks?

A few of my guy friends are avid bike riders and these bike socks would be a fun gift.

The man that isn't as silly but is still up for trying some fun color these American Apparel socks would do the trick.

If you're all business, but still want to add a pop of style then I recommend these Ted Baker socks or these Argyle socks.

Whichever you choose, it is an inexpensive way to add some flair and just don't be afraid to go all out! I mean after all, they are just socks. Have some fun with it! That is what fashion is all about, stepping out and expressing yourself.

People- Gwen Stefani

Looking back it isn't always easy to see who or what inspired you. As a kid, you are exposed to so many things and at times in can be hard to pinpoint exactly who or what influenced you. That being said, I was driving the other day listening to No Doubt on the radio when I had a flashback to my thirteen year old self.

The year was 1995 and it was my summer break. I was doing what all teenagers at that time did, watching MTV when I first saw No Doubt's video, Spiderwebs, thus introducing me to the lovely Gwen Stefani. I was memorized by the music and most importantly by Gwen's style. In fact I loved her clothes so much that I tried to emulate her, even though I looked and still look nothing like Gwen. The closest I got was a light blue dress that looked very similar to the one she wore in the video "Don't Speak" that I picked up at a surf shop.

Either way, since then Gwen has always been my favorite rock star and I have and will continue to admire her amazing style.
