Lupita Nyong'o

One of the best things about awards season, besides all the incredible movies there are to go see, are the dresses that are worn down the red carpet!

This season there have been lots of great dresses, but someone who has been continuously doing it right is Lupita Nyong'o, actress from the movie "12 Years a Slave". Besides being gorgeous, the dresses she has worn to the past few awards shows have been nothing short of amazing! With the aid of stylist Micaela Erlanger they have chosen colorful, well fitting pieces that exude class and sophistication!

Below are some of my favorites, check them out!

Last week I was at Sephora picking up some things I needed... (and wanted) when I decided to check out the nail polish section (which is pretty expansive at Sephora). I usually don't splurge on nail polish, but I had recently been inspired to try some new glitter nail polish that I had seen while thumbing through a magazine.

I justified that buying the mini nail polish would save me on time and money spent at a nail salon, which is probably not very accurate since I don't often go to nail salons, but anyhow
I ended up buying this Citate mini in "Razzmatazz" and I can honestly say it's been a fun way to dress  up my normal unpainted nails with some fun sparkle!

It especially makes me smile when during my work day I catch a quick glance of sparkle-y-ness!

In my opinion, well worth the investment!

Workout Clothes

Working Out in 1923

I'm not necessarily one of those people that believe a new year equals a new workout. I think it's important to work out all year long to live a healthy life, but I am a firm believer in having good workout clothes!

I know what some of you are thinking "You're just going to sweat, so why invest in expensive clothes?".

Why? Here are my reasons:

1. You most likely are working out in public (even if you're not), you need to look presentable.
2. The better you look, the better you will feel and the more motivated you will be to push harder, run faster or just get moving.
3. You will be sweating and therefore you will need to wash these clothes...often! Having clothes that last after being washed a few times a week is important.

Therefore I am not saying you should spend all your Christmas money on new work out clothes, but if your workout clothes look like this then maybe you should consider it.

I am saying at the bare minimum invest in a good pair of leggings/tights that fit you right now (nothing too baggy or too tight). If you are blessed with a bigger chest, then invest in a really good sports bra too. If you're not then Champion found at Target makes great and affordable options.

If you need somewhere to start check out AthletaUnder Armour or Lululemon.

Last piece of advice -make sure to try everything on and move around in the new clothes to make sure they fit before wearing them out in public.

Now get out there and start sweating it out... in your new workout clothes!

Over the holidays I had the pleasure of celebrating on the East Coast. Being a West Coast girl, as soon as I planned the trip I immediately began to research what type of winter accessories I would need. This may sound silly to anyone who lives anywhere where it gets really cold, but in Southern California cold weather accessories are usually more for style than function.

Therefore I was super stoked when I realized that I would be able to wear my EAR MUFFS!

I had bought them last year online on a whim because they looked fun and were on sale at Freepeople. The only time I had been able to wear them was on a trip last February to Seattle, so going to the East Coast meant a REAL reason to wear my ear muffs!!!!

Honestly they were AWESOME....my body just wasn't used to 30 something degree weather.  My East Coast friends probably thought I was ridiculous, but I wore them anyway and they kept my ears and body very warm!

In case you want some ear muffs of your own, I found these and these (which come in different colors)  on SALE!

Big Fancy Skirts

TIBI Full Skirt

Skirts are an interesting. I believe that they represent the zeitgeist (spirit of the times) best of all the clothing genres.

Think about it....trends with skirts change constantly...short, long, midi, fluted, A-line, mini and full.

Currently I have been seeing lots of full skirts everywhere which is reminiscent of the 1950's in a really fun way. The pictures don't do these skirts justice, because in real life they have some weight to them and look like something you would wear to a Ball or you know to the grocery store.

If you're not the type of woman to attend balls or happen to be a 1950's housewife then just wear it out to dinner with friends. Wherever you wear it, these big skirts will make you feel like a star and let's be honest we all like that!

This lovely is ON SALE HERE!
