Dressing Up or Down

People have different ideas about what is acceptable to wear in different scenarios. My assumption would be that everyone has a unique personality and therefore should and would convey it through their style, but we all know there are certain social settings where what you wear could really affect the way you are perceived.

This article written from a study conducted by the Harvard Business school is very interesting. This second  article where the writer tries to shop in luxury stores wearing sweatpants is also very interesting.

Check them out and consider these studies next time you are choosing what to wear!

Happy 1st Anniversary!

Today marks the 1st anniversary of this blog. Crazy how time flies when you keep track of it.

I started the blog to collect and share the fashion musings that inspire me.  I hope that I have in some way inspired you or at the very least kept you entertained.

Thank you for reading the blog!

In honor of the Anniversary here are some of my favorite posts from the past year.

1. My first post, read it by clicking here!

Interesting fact, this was the dress that made me fall in love with Oscar de la Renta. The image above was my screensaver at work for over a year, which is why I felt it should represent my first post.

2. Iris Apfel - because someday I aspire to be a cool older lady! Read it here!

3. Mansaur Gavriel bags- I posted about it in August 2013 in this post, but these bags are still super hard to find. The only places to get them are to add them to a wish list here or pre-order here!

4. Gladiator Heels-  This post from October 2013 of a photo I saw during Fashion week confirmed the idea that they would soon become a trend. In fact gladiator flats are now on my Spring Wish List (post found here).

5. Slip Dresses- Posted in October here, still and probably forever relevant. Best fashion item to come from the 90's?

Love the Maiyet Slip Dress pictured above, but find less expensive alternatives here and here.

Thanks again for reading through a few of my favorite posts from the year. What were some of yours?

Spring Wish List

Shopping sometimes can be overwhelming, even for those who love to shop. To make it easier at the beginning of every season I create a personal wish list of items that I feel are important.

Since Spring is upon us here is my Spring 2014 Wish list....

1. Boyfriend Jeans- These have been around for a while but rolled up they can be worn with heels or sporty flats.

Find them by clicking here!

2. Button Down Blouse- Classic, can be worn with both a skirt or jeans.

There are many out there buthis brand is known for it.

3. Gladiator Sandals- I have been a fan for a while but it seems Spring 14 will be the season that they become the "it" sandal.

I like these but they will be everywhere and if high doesn't suit your style they can also be found in low.

4. A Yellow Handbag- Yellow is such a fun color and a yellow handbag just screams fun!

This Balenciaga bag is pretty hot!

5. A Spring/Summer Dress- This season it looks like cut out's are going to be huge. I love this See by Chloe dress , which you can also find here before it's gone!

6. A Flowery something- To get you into the Spring mood, a flowery shirt or dress or in this case skirt will inspire some color and fun into your wardrobe.

Find this skirt here! Side note: Also love the casualness of a T-shirt thrown over the pencil skirt.

The key to adding newness into your wardrobe each season is implementing a few key pieces that fit with your personal style.  For Spring 2014, any of the above combined with an existing wardrobe will have you ready for the new season!

Home Office Inspiration

I have mentioned this before, but Fashion is often inspired by home decor.
Reason being that interior design trends generally last much longer, as furniture and things to fill the home are much more expensive and require more of an investment.  The way we decorate our spaces are also very telling of macro-trends of the time period, which is why fashion designers are often inspired.

That being said, every once in a while I like to post home interiors that inspire me. The picture above is of a home office. If I had a home office this would probably be similar to what it would look like. I love the desk and the way that the art is hung. The small tree on the desk is also a fun addition, although if it were on my desk, it would have to be fake as (sadly) I don't have very much of a green thumb.

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter Runway Show

As I may have mentioned before, in fashion people are always looking ahead. By the time the consumer is able to purchase something, most people who work in fashion's jobs are done.

It used to be that only those in high end fashion had access to runway shows and the ultimate sneak peak to what was coming, but with the influx of social media and the Internet everyone now has access.

It is interesting to live in a time where one can remember the exclusivity of  what it means to watch a fashion show.

That being said, check out the Louis Vuitton Fall Winter Runway Show by clicking here!

All eyes were on Nicolas Ghesquiere, the former Balenciaga designer who took over for Marc Jacobs. Overall it looks like he kept it classic with a slight nod to the 1970's.

I especially loved this photo posted on Louis Vuitton's instagram page. I predict it will be a huge silhouette hit in the coming months.
